Building Foundation Leak Detection and Location Systems - SENSOR DDS® MIT Arc Tester

The foundations of modern buildings are in most cases constructed from reinforced concrete. Concrete as a material is not inherently watertight, and groundwater acting on the foundation structure from outside, or rainwater penetrating the subsoil, will sooner or later find its way into the interior of the building – quickly becoming an internal problem in the form of increased moisture. To prevent this, a geomembrane is applied to the foundations (PVC, HDPE, LDPE, liquid membrane, etc.). It is therefore essential to test the integrity of such a geomembrane to ensure it retains its waterproofing properties.

The most widely used and effective method for testing the integrity of waterproofing on any flat surface is non-intrusive testing using SENSOR DDS® MIT technology. As the technology is based on the distribution of a geo-electrical field beneath and above the waterproofing liner, the presence of thermal insulation – which is electrically non-conductive – could present a challenge.

SENSOR DDS® Fixed can be installed for permanent integrity monitoring of the waterproofing liner on building foundations.

For double-layer waterproofing systems, we offer the SENSOR DDS® RMS automatic system with a tile-based leak detection and location system. This technology allows the entire monitored area to be divided into individual sectors, which are continuously supervised 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In the event of a leak, the affected sector is immediately highlighted on the internal control panel display.
